Eye Tests

Regular eye examinations are essential for maintaining clear vision and protecting the long-term health of your eyes. As subtle changes to your sight often go unnoticed, many eye conditions can develop without obvious symptoms. A detailed eye test allows us to detect these early signs, offering reassurance and, when necessary, timely treatment.

A Personal Approach To Vision Care

Our patients often tell us how much they value our thorough and unhurried eye tests. Not only will you see the same friendly faces each time you visit, we’ll also offer expert advice on lenses and frames, including the most advanced varifocals, specialist coatings and lens designs for hobbies or professional use.

We don’t believe in rushing appointments or passing patients from one person to another. Each part of the examination is explained as we go, and there’s plenty of time to ask questions. Our approach is detailed yet unhurried, giving you confidence that every aspect of your eyesight is being carefully assessed.

What To Expect During Your Appointment

Here at David Pressman, we take the time to do things properly. Using a combination of advanced technology and traditional, attentive care, every eye test is carried out personally by our optometrist.

Your 45-minute appointment begins with a discussion about your vision, general health and any changes you’ve noticed with your eyes. We’ll also talk about how you use your eyes day-to-day – for instance, for reading, driving or detailed work – so the test reflects your real-life needs.

We then carry out precise prescription measurements using the Essilor Av VR800, accurate to 0.01D, to provide the clearest possible vision. We use advanced technology combined with clinical experience and expertise to painlessly check the health of your eyes. Where necessary, we check your visual fields using the Henson 9000. We measure eye pressure with a gentle Pulsair non-contact tonometer to screen for glaucoma and an ophtalmoscope to examine your retina and macula. We also offer an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomograpy) screening to check the internal health of your eye in 3D.

Advanced Eye Testing (OCT)

For patients who would like a more in-depth assessment, we offer advanced testing with optional specialist scans. This includes Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) using the Topcon 3D Maestro, a state-of-the-art scanner that produces 3D images of the retina – the light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye that sends visual information to the brain. OCT scans allow us to detect early signs of conditions that may not yet cause noticeable symptoms.

How Often Should You Have Your Eyes Tested?

We recommend having an eye test every 2 years, though we may recommend more frequent tests if you have a particular condition or family history of eye disease.
